Credit Memos

Issue a credit against an invoice and apply it to a balance, in full or in part.

A credit memo is a credit issued against an invoice, for a scope-change credit, a goodwill adjustment, or an overbill correction.

Fields

  • Linked invoice.
  • Reason.
  • Line items (positive amounts).

How a credit gets used

A credit memo starts Issued. Apply it against an invoice balance, in full or in part. Manuall tracks each application, so a partial credit shows its remaining balance, and the memo flips to Applied once it's fully consumed.

A credit memo is an accounting credit, not a card refund.

It reduces what a customer owes. If you need to put money back on a card, do that as a refund on the original Stripe payment.
